The Silvering
In 1964, seven-year-old Joshua Wilson disappears through a hidden portal in his grandfather's attic, with his sister Sarah and cousin Damian as witnesses. For twenty years, Sarah is haunted by the attic and of recurring nightmares of a man with heterochromatic eyes.
With the help of a lucid dream therapist, she uncovers the man's identity. His name is Lucius, a dreamwalker. He leads Sarah and Damian to the attic, where he reveals that he is their uncle, and he can take them to Joshua.
Sarah and Damian travel with Lucius to a parallel Earth where the ill are sacrificed to produce an anti-aging drug for the healthy. They reunite with Joshua, who works as an enforcer for the eugenicist regime. The reunion fractures when the Genocracy, this Earth's governing agency, detects their crossing. As the Genocracy closes in, survival forces Sarah and Damian into an uneasy alliance with Lucius.
They find refuge with the Hidden Corridor, a covert resistance operating outside the Genocracy's reach. As Sarah and Damian plan their return to Earth, they learn that Joshua cannot come with them. He would die without the anti-aging drug unique to this world. Sarah must decide whether to abandon Joshua again, this time by choice. Unbeknownst to her, the resistance has plans of their own.
